Sixth round of OGAT National Builder Competition

Conclusion of Stage One

by Guardian News team, 14 August 2020

Sixth round was marked by the absence of not only one but two competitors. Theme of the round – Prehistoric again caused a lot of confusion among the competitors. Both were extremely confused on what they should be building. Organisational committee was a bit disappointed with the end results “We feel that because of the absence of two competitors both remaining contestants weren’t motivated enough. In the end we only saw average creations” commented DOJEGAN, the chairman of the committee.

After three exciting weeks the first stage of the OGAT National Builder Competition came to an end. Only four out of seven competitors can advance in the semi-finals. It could be said that the runaway winner of the stage was ciabatta8.9 with four victories and total of 12 points. The next three, Zpazeeagle, AkiraStrait and Toilet Seat were tied with 9 points and had to be separated by calculating average scores of all three creations.

Unfortunately only four contestants can advance in the semi-finals. We had to say goodbye to excellent builders GeneralGoose, Pudie and heliozoan, whose works we never managed to see.

"The adherence to the theme for this creation is very questionable. It seems the builder tried to create a farm/temple from ancient Egypt or an Mesopotamian civilization, which is difficult to count in the prehistoric era. The creation is made adequately but without any major innovations or interesting features. Most building elements are used in the typical manner without any interesting interaction between the elements.

"The YELLOW participant showed us a different picture of how he sees the times of prehistory. Here we can see what I suppose is a place of worshiping a god but I'm not sure about it. The entire area is also made in detail in its simplicity, which is very pleasing to the eyes. There is also a water reservoir and a small hut which is probably used mainly for sleeping. we can notice a few decorative details throughout the work. As in the case of the WHITE participant, I was not sure whether the work could be included in the main topic, prehistory, but it is very difficult in OGAT to use many elements cleverly to do this task. The participant tried very hard to show us the prehistory in the OGAT version. Very good job."

"As with all other creations in this rounds, it is hard to say the Alalala temple is following the theme of the round. Such sophisticated and detailed temples were built much later than the prehistoric era. With the historical themes it was expected to do quick research first and not make the first thing that comes to the builder's mind. Otherwise this is an interesting creation. Despite the minimal use of items still manages to create an interesting and eye-pleasing creation. This beautiful yet simplistic temple would gain a much higher score if the theme had been titled Temples instead of Prehistoric."

"The WHITE participant showed us how beautiful it is to build temples in OGAT. the temple is very detailed in its simplicity. Very nicely combined objects into one whole, thus showing us how creative you can be in this aspect. Everything looks very clear and neat. The only thing I had a problem with when assessing this work was the lack of certainty whether the building could be classified as prehistory. As we know, Prehistory ends with the appearance of the writing. However, I rate the whole thing positively, I really like this work."

"It is amusing that this creation is the most accurate among all creations according to the theme of the round. The composition and the selection of building elements is adequate for a third place."

"Another creation where we have to give points for observing the main theme. Otherwise the use of elements and the final impression is a bit weaker than the other grass field."
